The Senior Class of 2021

Monday, April 19, 2021, was a special day. For the first time since February, 2020, the Book and Wine Drinking Club had an official meeting of sorts. Well, it was the first meeting of the year, the first since the pandemic was declared in March, 2020, and the first time we had been together as a group in 14 months! AND, it was a celebration of Carolyn’s birthday!
Minutes of the Meeting
Although our meetings in the past have been in the evenings, our first get together was for a late luncheon on the outdoor patio at FoodWorks in North Chattanooga.

We made the meeting official by Kate raising a glass of wine, and Nancy mentioning a book. To be honest, I know Nancy mentioned a book because she said she did. (Don’t ask me the name of the book. Okay?)
We drank and ate. Gifts were presented. The cake was cut. And, the sweet sound of laughter among friends followed. We were together again.
As I said, it was Carolyn’s birthday celebration. We sang a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday, except for Francine who sang in French, but there’s always one in every crowd.
I have included the above pictures of Francine, Margaret, and Nancy because they have been, along with Carolyn, the least seen the #oldladiesontheloose in 2020 and 2021. Kate, Tawnya, and I have “traipsed” all over Chattanooga during the pandemic once we were out of quarantine as is well documented on this site.
Friendship
When the pandemic was officially announced in March of last year and we all thought it was a two-week adventure in staying home and isolated, each of us in the Book and Wine Drinking Club thought we could endure two weeks. And, we did. But, then it became two months. Then six months. And, 14 months later we are still wearing masks and social distancing when in the general public. But, once the ladies were fully vaccinated, it was adult time. So, here we are doing what we do best –laughing, making faces, and rolling eyes!

The beauty of this group is simple. We are friends. And, even after not seeing one another for the most part in over a year, we picked up right where we left off. We came together to enjoy good food and beverages, to talk and laugh. And, we did it well!
Looking forward to our May meeting at the Walden Club, thanks to Nancy. Hope our missing member Barbara can join us for the next get together. Until then, Cheers!
